The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine regularly educates 12-15 candidates per year who are working toward the titles PhD (natural scientists and social scientists), MD-PhD (medical doctors) or DVM-PhD (veterinarians).
There are two options for graduate-level education in Bern: the Graduate School of Health Sciences (GHS) and the Graduate School of Cellular and Biological Sciences (GCB). PhD candidates can register with either of the programs.
The Public Health Sciences Course Program is an optional training program that complements the PhD curriculum defined by the Graduate Schools. It is based on a qualification framework with competence goals and is recommended to PhD students working on public health-related topics who want to get ready for a post-doc position in academia or an organization close to science.
