I have been appointed Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health by the University of Bern with effect from 1 April 2025 and director of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM).

I am an MD, MPH, and PhD-trained epidemiologist with a primary research focus on infectious diseases, sexually transmitted infections, and infection control. Over the years, I have expanded my expertise to include meta-research, aiming to evaluate research practices and develop innovative methods to enhance the utility and impact of scientific outcomes. More recently, I have become increasingly interested in exploring the contributions of researchers to scientific production and investigating the presence of gender and geographical biases in research. At the ISPM, I plan to establish a new research group dedicated to Research on Research.

For 16 years, I served as a consultant at the Division of Clinical Epidemiology and the Geneva Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), where I supported the design and implementation of clinical trials across diverse health topics using various study designs and research methodologies. Concurrently, I was actively involved in teaching epidemiology, clinical research, and sex/gender medicine at undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education levels at the University of Geneva (including programs in human medicine, dental medicine, and biomedical sciences).

I also contributed to ethical oversight as a long-standing member of the Geneva Research Ethics Committee. My strong commitment to health equity led me to co-found the faculty group Medicine, Gender & Equity and join the Gender Equality Commission at the Geneva Faculty of Medicine. Recently, I became a member of the committee for the Swiss Society for Gender Health.
